PlayStation VR2 Unboxing Launch
Kei Yoneyama, Global Product Strategy & Management at Sony Interactive Entertainment, unboxes the PlayStation VR2 headset ahead of its official launch on February 22. Priced at $549.99 USD, this headset connects to the PS5 console via USB-C cable and sports a 4K OLED panel that achieves a resolution of 2,000 x 2,040 pixels per eye. Two inward-facing eye-tracking cameras enable games to use foveated rendering, a performance optimization technique where the render resolution of the game is reduced in areas where the player is not looking

Unlike the first-generation model, PS VR2 will include all-new “Sense” controllers, complete with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, the same ones found on the DualSense controller, as well as limited finger tracking. One drawback: it is not compatible with first generation PS VR games, as Sony aimed to make the PS VR2 “a truly next-generation VR experience”. Currently, there are over 100 games in development for the PS VR2, both from PlayStation Studios and third party publishers, including Star Wars: Tales from Galaxy’s Edge, No Man’s Sky, as well as Resident Evil Village.
