Meta AI’s Animated Drawings is an Open Source Project That Turns Doodles Into Moving Images
There’s Epic Games’ Metahuman Animator, and the Meta AI’s Animated Drawings. Developed by the Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) team, this open source, web-based tool can create an animation starring a character from drawings in less than a minute. Rsearchers collected 1.6-million drawings within the first few months of releasing the demo to improve their model’s performance.
They found that many were using the tool to animated company logos, stuffed animals, anime characters, pets, action figures, and a variety of other things that weren’t hand-drawn doodles. By releasing the open source Animated Drawings Demo, Meta hopes to inspire other developers to create demos and experiences that utilize animation assets from user drawings.
The Animated Drawings project is a great example of how open source technology can be used to lower the barrier to entry for people who want to experiment with animation and create their own drawing-to-animation experiences,” said Jesse Smith, Meta Research Engineer.
