Fingerprint Sensor Door Security Alarm System
You won’t see this on the Volkswagen GEN.TRAVEL EV concept, but this custom fingerprint sensor-equipped door does double as a security alarm system of sorts. Inventor Jaison Dasika’s fingerprint-reading door lock system uses LED proximity lighting to ward off intruders and consists of a servo motor controlled by a microcontroller development board.

This board then turns the deadbolt knob when an open command is received after a fingerprint is authenticated. Now recognizing fingerprints requires an Arduino board paired with a fingerprint scanner. A 3D-printed mount was used to secure the fingerprint reader and other hardware to the door’s deadbolt. Once the Hall Effect sensor detects the door is closed, it automatically locks the deadbolt, thus eliminating the need for any manual actions. Intruders who attempt the lock or even break down the door will be greeted by a loud alarm that sounds off when a fingerprint scan isn’t used.
